Musings of a Book Addict

I'm married to a scavenger of sorts and he often totes home rescued boxes of books that I paw through with shiny, hungry eyes. I pull out the odd and interesting and add them to my teetering stack.

Living in the Light: A Guide to Personal and Planetary Transformation

Living In The Light: A Guide To Personal And Planetary Transformation - Shakti Gawain, Laurel King I love Shakti Gawain's writing and many of her other books are on my favorite book list. But this particular book missed the boat on so many levels. My copy was published in 1986, and I know she has made some huge leaps and bounds since then, which is reflected in her later publications. This book is the WORST of the "Science of Mind" movement. It includes such gems as: People get cancer because they are emotionally unbalanced; the idea that women who have been raped have "asked for it" on a psychic level; and you can tell how "sick and unbalanced" someone is by the shape of their body (overweight = unresolved issues). It's pompous, high-handed, extremely privileged and ignorant. So why do I give it three stars? Because as far as writing about intuition, I think she is right on the money. She offers great ways to connect with that sacred source and exercises to deepen it. If this is the only book you've read by Shakti Gawain, please don't give up on her.
