I'm married to a scavenger of sorts and he often totes home rescued boxes of books that I paw through with shiny, hungry eyes. I pull out the odd and interesting and add them to my teetering stack.
I understand that for its time (1978) this was an eye-opening and powerful book of stories. I also love that, at 60-years-old, this was the author's first novel, however, the story-telling is really dated. There's quite a bit of "silly but well-intentioned Americans meet the wise, noble natives" kind of talk that was a bit hard to swallow, here in 2012.
