I love the character of Claire Dewitt and I love the mysticism and symbolic connections she makes with the cases she works on. Visiting New Orleans through her eyes was a magical experience, but there is something really jarring in hearing the narrator try to sound like different black "gangster-type" men. It was cringe-worthy, every time it happened. And the answer to the mystery was very empty for me - "the victim gets revenge" is not enough. I need more.
